Know Your Smile Correction Options

The most common treatment option to correct your smile is braces. Did you realize you have options? Traditional braces consist of brackets, elastic bands, and an archwire, but they are not the only options available. University Heights Family Dentistry will discuss your options and how often you should come in for an adjustment. Braces are not just for children or teens, adults are welcome to discuss orthodontic treatments. Although there is some discomfort during your orthodontic treatment, braces of today are much more comfortable than ever before. Be sure to contact our office in San Bernardino for more information. Here are some examples of our other orthodontic treatment options:
  • Traditional Braces
  • Clear Braces
  • Invisalign™ Braces

How Do I Care For My Braces?

Brushing & Flossing

Taking care of your teeth becomes the main priority when you wear braces. Our doctors at University Heights Family Dentistry, recommend you use a soft-head toothbrush. Be sure to be gentle when you brush or floss, this helps avoid damaging the wires and brackets. Threading your floss carefully between the tooth and the wire of your braces is the best possible way to get in between your teeth. Remember, if you cause too much force when flossing can damage your brackets. Be sure to contact our office and staff for instructions on healthy flossing.

Food to Skip or Limit

It is important for patients with braces to maintain a balanced diet and limit the number of sugary snacks and meals. Your dentist at University Heights Family Dentistry will recommend avoiding eating certain foods that could interfere with the brackets on your braces or accidentally bend the wires, such as nuts, popcorn, hard candy. According to the Dental Association, patients with braces should avoid ice and sticky foods, such as chewing gum, caramel or other chewy candy.
